Day Four involved an interesting game show, an astonishing engineering demo, and amazing presentations from groups like Broadway, chorus, dance crew, Hollywood, music video, and skitcom.
"Born to Be" Speaker
Along with the enthusiastic presentations, we also had an inspirational speaker named Brandon that helped us figure out who we were truly “Born to Be”. Brandon taught us to chase our dreams and go after what we were born to be. He told us of how we were all capable of achieving what we dream of, and that it is up to us to get there. He inspired RYLA as a whole and told us to go for what we are truly passionate about, no matter what anyone says. There are going to be obstacles in your way, but choosing to believe that they are not there is up to you.
ShelterBox
Afterwards, we learned about a key part of the Rotary, and that is ShelterBox. ShelterBox is a charity that donates an emergency shelter in a box to places around the world, and to families that need it. ShelterBox aims to create a world where shelter is not an issue, and a world where everyone is safe and comfortable in their own living space. ShelterBox is an amazing charity, and their work is truly miraculous. The things that they do to help people in need deserves some attention.
RYLA News Broadcast
The RYLA News Broadcast group started off today's broadcast with a summary of two speakers one of them being Kiersten Kral, a dear member of the RYLA staff, who left us to reflect on how we are currently living our lives and Mac Guffie who told us we are the only thing between us and our dreams. Then we heard an inspirational message from our sponsors followed by a recap of our talent show and dance. Then conferees received the weather forecast followed by the cooking segment of the day!
My Two Cents
The entire RYLA conference met in the tennis courts and had an in depth conversation about controversial topics and topics that are hard to talk about in everyday life. This allowed people to express their feelings, as well as an opportunity to have an outlet to speak up. The 'My Two Cents' activity gave everyone a voice and gave us a unique perspective about different topics that people usually avoid. The controlled environment allowed for an equal opportunity for everyone to share a piece of their mind!
